Fresh from Colorado State’s campus, Katie has landed in the Garage with a Journalism and Media Communications degree in hand, replete with a minor in Business Management and a concentration in advertising, marketing, and PR. How’s THAT for stacking papers? Sprinkle in her zest for all things outdoors, her quintessential Hood River childhood, her quick wit and stellar levels of organization, and she’s practically a perfectly-minted mechanic.
We can’t wait to introduce you to our newest project manager, Katie Middel.

Tell us a little about your background:
After CSU and before Blue Collar, I had five different marketing internships in various industries and roles including a fitness start-up, a world-renowned wellness publication, non-profits, and finally a creative agency where I fell in love with the work.
Tell us a little about your family.
They’re total hippies. Mom has been hiking the Appalachian Trail and backpacking around for the last two years while Dad lives in Hood River and works in construction. My brother Sam also lives in the Gorge where he spends his time making music under his ninja alias, SamOurEye, and is currently living on an emu farm in Parkdale. Gotta love ‘em.
What’s your favorite thing about working for a creative agency?
I like how each day is a little bit different. New challenges, new successes, and even failures here and there. But above all, I love the collaboration it takes as a team to see a project from start to finish.
How did you get involved with Blue Collar?
Two years ago, I reached out about an internship they weren’t hiring for. That was my first attempt at getting my foot in the door. Then, I thought about copywriting and shortly through my phone interview with Elle, I decided that it wasn’t for me. When I saw they were hiring for a project manager, I jumped on the opportunity. The real reason I got the job, though, was because I mentioned sturgeon fishing in my final interview with Tom. It pays to do your research.
Why do you believe in Blue Collar?
We are a well qualified team that is passionate about every project. We get the job done. No half-assing anything here.

What are your favorite sites, books, places for inspiration?
Tuesdays With Morie. The ocean. The woods.
What’s your favorite season and why?
Summer, of course! Being able to do my favorite activities, outside in warm weather: there’s nothing better!
What’s your weirdest quirk?
Popping my toes. Constantly. It’s like an itch I can’t scratch.
What’s your philosophy?
OM Shanti Shanti, which literally just means peace, peace, peace. This chant helps connect the universe and radiates peace wherever it is spoken.
What’s your personal goal?
Run a marathon before I’m 30. HA! Just kidding. Let’s start with waking up early enough to get a workout in before work.

Tell us about your hobbies, sports, and outside-of-work passions.
Yoga, eating, drinking, mountain biking, kiteboarding, reading, snowboarding, cooking, fishing. In that order.
What do you consider the greatest human invention of all time?
The camera.
